Same Rules Apply

I recently had the opportunity to reconnect with some very dear friends. Our families met while traveling and continue to intentionally cross paths as we meander North America. As I thought about writing this post, a repeated exchange between the young son and I came to mind.

“Do you want to play Fluxx?” he would often ask those who knew the game.

“I’ll play if you teach me,” I would say.

“Well, it’s kind of complicated. The rules are always changing,” he’d reply.

I initially thought of this as a metaphor for life (my life especially- given my firsthand perspective) – always changing. I am intrigued by change and fueled by the joy of presence while simultaneously aware of unlimited possibility and potential.
That said, I’ve made another big change this week in deciding not to continue co-ownership and co-publishing duties of Rethinking Everything Publishing. My reflection on the last two and a half years yields a tremendous time of personal growth and awareness. I take my leave from this experience expanded in many ways through the many heartfelt connections I have made, our successes and failures, and the groundbreaking means of sharing personal stories of trial and triumph.

The time with my family will be mostly unchanged physically but I am thrilled with the emotional and psychological presence I can now offer without the lingering expectations and deadlines that come with publishing three quarterly magazines.

But do the rules change? Is it complicated? What are the rules?
1. Love
2. Appreciation
3. Bravery
4. Joy
(etc….)

Nope. The rules don’t change but life always does and I love that. I love exploring and changing and growing and… rethinking. All these will continue as I focus on presence for myself and my family, making and feeding personal connections, and indulging in budding interests. Love to all of you and thank you for journeying with me here. I can still be found at www.clanofparents.com and www.werhumansbeing.com. (Maybe now I’ll have more presence there, too!)

Best wishes Sarah. There’s much you initiated in the way of thought for me and I appreciate that. Happy Spring!

I, too, love change. It can sometimes be hard to give up something you have enjoyed (and others have enjoyed you doing). I look forward to hearing about your adventures as you have them, when you wish to write about them. 🙂
